A landmark album by jazz musician Miles Davis has been commended by the US House of Representatives, 50 years after its original release.
Politicians voted unanimously to honour Kind of Blue’s commercial success and artistic contribution, and reaffirmed jazz music as a national treasure.
The record had sold some four million copies by 2008, making it the best-selling jazz album of all time.
Trumpeter and composer Davis died in 1991 at the age of 65.
The resolution, which gained the support of 409 members of the house, also urged the protection and promotion of jazz.
The original recording, which was only 37 minutes in length, also featured collaborations with jazz musicians including pianist Bill Evans and drummer Jimmy Cobb.
Cobb is the only musician who performed on the recording who is still alive.
Davis, who was posthumously inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, was reputed for fusing jazz with more experimental music, which went on to form hip-hop sounds.
