Film star Matt Dillon has been charged with a speeding offence after being stopped by police on a US highway.

The 44-year-old actor was apprehended in Newbury, Vermont after allegedly travelling at 106mph (170km/h) in a 65mph (105km/h) zone on Tuesday.

Dillon was ordered to appear in court on 21 January before being released by police officers.

The star’s screen credits include Crash, which landed him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.
